Detection and identification of metabolites from biological matrices for the production of functional / nutraceutical food with “health properties”, production of biomolecules, biopharmaceuticals and innovative diagnostics by the development of new production systems.
Conservation, characterization and evaluation of existing biological collections for industrial purposes (food and biotechnology) and processing of biological resources (plants, animals, microorganisms, waste and agro-industrial by-products) in high value-added products, according to the principle of the “cascade-type valorization” (innovative food, feed, materials and bio-based products) and focusing on the efficient use of resources, on the enhancement of existing collections of microorganisms, on the closing of the cycles in a logic of circular economy and spatial symbiosis.
Development of production systems for food and non-food areas, with the aim of creating innovative products and processes through the use of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs), industrial biotechnology (White Biotechnologies) and Process Technologies (with a special focus on Mild Technologies), for agriculture and bio-industry.
