Lifestyles and the Mediterranean diet are the focus of discussion during the first annual meeting  (March 21 st -22nd 2023 –  Tunis) of the international Promedlife project c oordinated by FEM and developed by 12 partners in 5 Countries of the Mediterranean area: Italy, Slovenia, Morocco, Tunisia and Greece. The project, funded by the PRIMA Program, aims to promote lifestyles in line with the principles of the Mediterranean diet, encouraging healthy eating habits and reducing the environmental and economic impact of production and food processing. The objective is to identify innovative solutions to develop novel food products for the promotion of mediterranean lifestyle and healty diet. It also aims to attain optimal food communication and education through training programs that target primary and (upper) secondary students as well as their families, from children to older adults.

Mediterranean diet has long been considered a landmark in healthy nutrition, but changing eating habits has meant that people have become less adherent to it. The younger population lost the connection with traditional foods while older people experience life changes that result in significant swaps in their diet. Despite this, both groups could benefit from a diet rich in antioxidants that has been shown to help prevent disease over the long term. PROMEDLIFE aims to reverse, through a multi-actor approach, the decline in adherence to the Mediterranean diet pattern.

The consortium (University of Trento, University of Parma, ENEA -Biotechology Laboratory, Italian, Moroccan, Tunisian, Greek and Slovak entrepreneurial realities)  combines all necessary competencies and expertise to carry out the technology development, ensure successful dissemination and exploitation of project results, bringing together researchers in agri-food, nutrition, health and education.
